Recipe for a marinade that will tenderize meat?

I bought some steak in bulk, only to discover when I cooked some up it was really tough. So tough that the kids refused to eat it. Does any one have a recipe for a marinade that will work miracles and tenderize this steak? I really dont want to stew or cerole it.
